Your New Years Resolutions

According to Gretchen Rubin, Forbes contributor and creator of “The Happiest Project,” making New Year’s Resolutions will ultimately lead to a happier life. I’m sure many of us would agree because, what is a New Year’s resolution other than a beginning of the year goal to head in the right direction or tackle something you’ve been putting off? Setting goals helps give you something to strive for, to work toward and ultimately a sense of purpose in life. Creating and following through with your goals gives you more satisfaction, more success, and a higher chance of achieving your dreams. Goals also hold you accountable for your success and in turn leads to less excuses, less procrastination and more long term success. Only about 44% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions but Rubin would recommend that everyone partake in this life changing practice. Some words of advice: ask yourself what would make you happier, find positive resolutions, and start small.

Being in a health and wellness industry, we are constantly focusing on our client’s whole health and simple steps clients can take to improve their everyday life. Indulging isn’t the only thing day spas are about. Day spas focus on making a big difference in someone’s life through small steps. We are focused on helping you to achieve maximum mind and body relaxation, sending you home with tips to help you continue feeling good long after you leave, and developing a wellness plan with you. This includes encouraging a healthy diet and exercise routine, helping you to look and feel your best with an array of treatments, and helping you to reduce physical and emotional stress. We are committed to your health and would like you to be as well. Making New Year’s Resolutions will help you get on the right track to all of these things. While not all of your New Year’s Resolutions need to be health based, we believe that feeling healthy will be a motivational factor in sticking to and following through with your other goals. Feeling good will keep you focused and driven. As we mentioned, the types of goals you start with should start small. For instance, commit to receiving one massage per month or keeping up with your skin care regimen. Not all of us take the time to take care of our skin on a daily basis so start with making a goal of removing your makeup and washing your face twice daily. Something as simple as this will result in healthier skin and once the results are seen, it will lead you to a bigger goal. Here are some simple things to start with (customize these to your needs and wants):
1.) Attend one group exercise class per week. Attend with a friend to add a motivational factor.
2.) Cook one healthy meal per week. Hang a recipe on the refrigerator to remind yourself.
3.) Receive one full body massage per month. Pre-book your appointments to stay on track.
4.) Read one book per month. It can be motivational or a just for fun read.
5.) Find a new hobby. Knitting, painting or a team sport are a few ideas.
6.) Get more rest. Aim for the recommended 8 hours per night for a healthier mind and body.

These examples are all steps to lead you to a healthier lifestyle. You can create one for career, one for family, one for fitness and so on. Reward yourself after several successful weeks or after a goal is met. For the most successful New Year’s resolution, make your goals practical, achievable and realistic. Be specific and be sure to write them down. Don’t lose track, don’t lose sight, don’t get discouraged. Get to work and good luck.
