We currently have openings for spa parties for November and December. If you are interested in booking a spa party at The Right Touch or would like to request more information, please e-mail events@therighttouchdayspa.net. We look forward to serving you for your next event!

End of Summer Tips for Skin and Hair

The dog days of summer are finally coming to a close and it’s time to care for our dehydrated and sun damaged skin and hair. It’s wonderful if you were able to spend some time outdoors, exploring new things or taking a vacation. However, the sun exposure, high temperatures and chlorine are not great for your skin and hair.

The sun, heat and humidity can cause your hair to fade, frizz, thin, break, and become dry and brittle. The good news is that you can remedy this by using a clarifying shampoo once a week, get a deep conditioning treatment every few weeks to maintain moisture, and never use products containing alcohol, peroxide, lemon juice, or "sun activated hair lightening" products. The Right Touch carries products that are safe for color treated hair, do not contain sulfate or other damaging ingredients and will be sure to leave all heads of hair healthy and happy! Consult with a hair stylist to decide which products are right for you and remember to always protect your hair from sun and heat!

We all know that sun damage on your face and neck show up in the form of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. How do we stop it, or even reverse it? Possibly the best thing you can do for your skin is to wear SPF whenever going outside, even on a cloudy day to protect your skin cells.  If you haven’t been so great about keeping up with this, come in for a Glycolic or Lactic acid treatment. This will remove dead skin cells to brighten and smooth your skin. It’s also a good idea to use an exfoliating cleanser once or twice a week. Creams, moisturizers and serums containing antioxidants will protect the collagen and elastic tissue from free radicals that can cause wrinkles and sagging skin. Try our Sage and Citrus Moisturizer after cleansing. To reduce the appearance of discoloration and age spots try Retinol Night Cream.

These same rules apply to your entire body. If you feel you have some sun damage on your arms, legs, back or anywhere else try an exfoliating body scrub to rid your body of dead skin cells. Follow with a body wrap to nourish and hydrate. Frequently apply body butters and creams after your shower to keep your skin healthy and hydrated all year long. Try Shea Body Butter or Sugar Smoothie Body Crème.

For more information on products or treatments for your skin, please consult one of our hair care or skin care professionals. They are always available to meet for a quick consultation, which are free of charge!

Ladies Night

A girl's spa night

Ladies Night clientsLadies Night is a tradition started in April 2010. It was an idea that we kind of just played with and then ran with. The concept started with wanting to give women an entire evening away from thinking about work, kids, housework, etc. and enjoy it at the spa with a couple of female friends. We wanted to offer mini services so that everyone had a chance to have more than one service and try out something new or different. Over the years we have been able to mold it into a perfect night of fun, relaxation and pampering that every woman deserves to experience. We've been able to make adjustments, create additions and form a perfect evening at the spa for everyone.

Two years since the start of Ladies Night and we've created the perfect spa getaway for hard working moms, good friends and spa junkies. We host 4 Ladies Nights a year which consist of 2-3 mini services per person, wine and appetizers, raffles and giveaways, and discounts in the boutique. I've had the privilege to help schedule, organize and work every event and see it grow to what it is today.

I love Ladies Nights because it is a different atmosphere from a normal day at the spa. While it is still about relaxation, it's also about getting together, trying new treatments and enjoying yourself. The food and drink and raffles and giveaways are fun extras at the event.

Because of the popularity, Ladies Nights book up rather quickly. 2013 Ladies Night dates will be announced in early February via e-mail. If you don't already receive our e-mails, sign up on the home page on our website to stay updated! For more information on Ladies Night or to register for the next Ladies Night event, e-mail Jennifer@therighttouchdayspa.net

I hope to see you at Ladies Night!

Relax the right way at The Right Touch

Stress is in our everyday lives. Deep breathing, yoga, walking, fishing, biking, gardening, and exercise all can aid in the release of stress. But every now and then we might need more to help with stress. Our bodies, mind and spirit need to be nurtured, pampered, massaged and groomed. Just as plants need the sun, people need to be touched. Once or twice a month you may experience a "need to be touched" day or a "relax and get away" day. Consider booking a massage or facial; an afternoon of relaxation may be just what the doctor ordered. One of my favorite treatments is the Anti Aging Facial where you will receive a facial cleansing, a mask, steam, extractions, and hydrating hand and foot warmers. It is a facial like no other and will help with reducing the sings of aging. This facial always makes me feel renewed and refreshed. All of the Estheticians at The Right Touch have warm and pampering hands that comfort the soul, relax the mind and rejuvenate the spirit.

Should I book a Swedish or Therapeutic Massage?

Should I book a Swedish or Therapeutic Massage?

Many clients ask me about the difference between a Swedish and Therapeutic Massage because they are unsure of which they should schedule. Here are a few differences between the two services to help you decide which the best is for you and your body:

No matter what type of massage you receive your body will benefit. Both a Swedish and Therapeutic Massage will help you achieve a deep state of relaxation while increasing circulation and blood flow. If you are strictly looking to relax and are not experiencing muscle pain or discomfort, a Swedish might be the best option for you. During a one hour Swedish massage, your therapist will use slow gliding strokes with a light to medium pressure to give you a full body massage. Swedish massages are perfect after a long week at the office or after an exam to put your mind and body at ease. A Therapeutic massage on the other hand is perfect for relieving muscle tension or discomfort and improving range of motion. During a one hour Therapeutic massage your therapist will implement techniques to help loosen tense areas and break up knots using a medium to firm pressure throughout your entire body.

If you would like to receive a full body massage, which includes your back, neck, shoulders, face, scalp, hands, feet, arms and legs, it is best to book a one hour massage. Please note that if you schedule a thirty minute massage, your therapist will have time to work on one or two areas of the body. If you feel that certain areas need extra attention but that you would still like to receive a full body massage, a 90 minute massage would be beneficial for you. Please also ask about our other types of massages including Sports, Prenatal, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone and our signature Rain Shower Massage. If you have any additional questions please ask the receptionist or your service provider or post a comment below!

Spa Etiquette & What To Know Before You Go

Spa Etiquette & What To Know Before You Go

How should I go about booking my appointment?
Please call the spa at 508-643-0666 or come in to schedule your appointment with the receptionist. It is best to schedule your appointment about a week or two in advance. So that we are able to meet all of your requests, if you are booking multiple services or are booking for more than one person, especially if you are scheduling a weekend appointment, please call at least two weeks in advance, but sooner if possible. Please notify the receptionist of any allergies, recent injuries or surgeries, pregnancy, or medical conditions/health concerns upon scheduling your appointment. Also notify the receptionist of any special needs or requests such as a male/female therapist, a first floor treatment room, etc. upon scheduling. If you are booking an appointment for the first time please have a Visa or Mastercard on hand as we require this information to hold your appointment for you. A hold is not placed on your card and you do not need to pay for your service until it is received; your credit card is simply required to book your appointment for you.

What should I wear to the spa?
Please dress comfortably to any spa treatment. If you are receiving a massage, body wrap or scrub, facial, cellulite treatment or if you are using the hydrotherapy tub, the spa will provide you with a robe and sandals to change into upon arrival. Please disrobe to your comfort level. We will also provide you with a locker to place your personal belongings inside of. The Right Touch is not responsible for lost or stolen articles so please leave your valuables at home. If you do not wish to change into a robe and sandals for any reason please kindly notify the receptionist upon check in and we will have you wait in the reception area for your service provider. All guests wishing to enjoy the relaxation lounge must be wearing a spa robe and sandals. Clients coming in to receive microdermabrasion, glycolic/lactic acid treatments, waxing, consultations, hair or nail services do not need to change into a robe and sandals but should still wear attire that they are comfortable in.

Why do I need to arrive early?
All first time clients will be asked to fill out appropriate paperwork necessary for their specific treatment(s). Certain services allow for you to change into a robe and sandals upon arrival. To give appropriate time for paperwork, changing and unwinding in the relaxation lounge, please arrive 5-20 minutes early depending on the service you will be receiving. If you wish to utilize the steam shower or our infrared sauna we strongly suggest arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your service. All amenities are complimentary when receiving any service. You may also arrive early to begin your relaxation in the spa lounge.

What should I bring with me to the spa?
Please bring your form of payment and any coupons or gift certificates you would like to use. We accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard and gift certificates from The Right Touch or SpaFinder gift certificates. You must present coupons and gift cards/certificates in order to use them toward your service. Gratuities are optional and not included in the price of services. If you would like to leave a tip for your service provider you may do so during checkout with cash or check. Feel free to bring your books and nooks to help you relax in the lounge while waiting for your treatment. If you are receiving a cellulite treatment or an Herbal body wrap or will be using the hydrotherapy tub, please bring a swimsuit.

Can I keep my cell phone on?
If you are not able to turn your cell phone off when entering the spa, please turn it to silent. Please do not use your cell phone or other electronic devices once inside of the spa. Cell phone use is strictly prohibited once entering the locker rooms, lounge and treatment rooms. If you are expecting an emergency phone call you may keep your cell phone on you, but please keep it on silent or vibrate out of respect of other clients enjoying their time at the spa.

Are children allowed at the spa?
Children under the age of 12 years old are not allowed at the spa unless receiving a service. For your child’s safety, please do not bring children under 12 years of age to the spa with you during your appointments. Any client under the age of 18 receiving a service at The Right Touch must first have a parent or guardian sign a parental consent form. Any client under the age of 13 must have a parent or guardian accompany them in a treatment room during their service.

What if I need to cancel?
Please give us a 24 hour notice for any cancellation, but more notice if possible. Regretfully, any cancelations within 4 hours of your appointment time will result in a 50% charge. If you fail to show up to any appointment, this will result in a 100% charge.

Can I come in with a group or host a spa party?
We welcome groups and parties up to 25 guests. Please contact the Spa Manager to organize a spa day specifically for your group. We will be sure to make it a memorable experience for any occasion. Please keep in mind that other patrons may be enjoying the spa during your visit so please be respectful to all clients by maintaining a quiet level of conversation.

Do I need to remove my makeup before receiving services?
No, that is not necessary. If you are receiving a facial your esthetician will remove any makeup on the face, neck and chest during the cleansing process. If you are receiving a body treatment or massage your therapist may perform a facial massage, but it does not matter if you have makeup on. If you do not wish you have your face, scalp or any other area of the body worked on please inform your service provider at the start of your treatment.

What else do I need to know before my trip to the spa?
If you are receiving a body scrub please do not shave 24 hours prior to your service. This may cause irritation to the skin and we want you to be as comfortable as possible for all services. It is not necessary to shave right before any service, but other than a body scrub, you can feel free to shave before a service if you’d like. Please remove your jewelry and watches when receiving massages, body treatments or facials. If you are receiving a waxing service please allow at least two weeks worth of hair growth and ¼ inch of hair. If you have any other questions pertaining to your visit or your service do not hesitate to ask the receptionist or your service providers. We are here to help you, pamper you, and make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible!

When I should book Part 2: Waxing and Body Treatments

One of the most commonly asked questions to a receptionist is: “when should I come back for my next treatment?”  The answer to this question may vary, but there are some deciding factors that can help you figure out when the right amount of time is for you.

Before a vacation, you always want to look and feel your best. I suggest waxing to those who are taking a vacation.  Even if you are not taking a vacation, I love waxing because it lasts longer than shaving, takes a short amount of time to complete when having it performed by a professional, and leaves the skin very smooth for several days or sometimes weeks after. It’s a very easy and efficient alternative to plucking or shaving. Consider a wax if you don’t have the time to keep up with plucking or shaving or when you need your eyebrows shaped. Waxing removes hair from the root so it lasts longer and minimizes regrowth and ingrown hairs. An esthetician would recommend a wax every 3-6 weeks. Everyone’s hair grows at different rates and each individual hair grows in different stages at different times, so if you want optimal results, return for waxing when your hair reaches ¼ of an inch or longer.  Any shorter than that and there will not be enough hair for the wax to "grab" onto.  You will notice that the more you keep up with it, the easier the waxing becomes and the longer it lasts.

A body wrap is great to nourish the skin, increase circulation, detoxify and decongest the body’s tissues as well hydrate your skin. Body scrubs are an ideal way to rid your body of dry, dull skin. Body scrubs are an exfoliation treatment that gently buff away dry dead skin cells and leaves behind soft, radiant skin.  Body scrubs also leave the skin prepared to receive rich hydration in the form of either an application of body butter or a hydrating body mask. These treatments are extremely beneficial when received together and they are both performed in a delightful and relaxing manner. My personal favorite is the Lavender-Shea Body Wrap because it smells delicious, has a calming effect, and is perfect for a chilly day when you just want to be entangled in a heated blanket. The outcome of this treatment is amazing.  I have never felt as smooth and soft. Whether it is a dry fall night, a cold winter evening, a crisp spring morning, or after a long beach trip where the salt has absorbed all the moisture from your skin, this treatment is perfect for warming you up and moisturizing your skin making it feel smoother than ever before. I also highly recommend the Sea Salt Scrub, received under the Vichy Shower and performed with a hydrating body balm. It’s a unique and invigorating experience. A Massage Therapist or Esthetician would suggest these treatments ideally to be preformed seasonally however, plan them as often as you deem necessary.  If you want to relax in a different way than a massage or you want to look and feel your best, these treatments will help you do just that. Again, they are great at the change of the seasons where your skin is experiencing the most dryness, irritation and dehydration.

I would recommend calling to book your appointments a week or two in advance to ensure that you receive your desired service on a date and time that fits into your schedule. It's a great idea to schedule your next appointment during your visit. This way it won't slip through the cracks and you won't loose track of time. Try booking out two appointments ahead, especially if you like to be booked with a certain Therapist or Esthetician. Remember to call us at 508-643-0666 regarding any questions you have on services or to schedule your next appointment!
