End of Summer Tips for Skin and Hair

The dog days of summer are finally coming to a close and it’s time to care for our dehydrated and sun damaged skin and hair. It’s wonderful if you were able to spend some time outdoors, exploring new things or taking a vacation. However, the sun exposure, high temperatures and chlorine are not great for your skin and hair.

The sun, heat and humidity can cause your hair to fade, frizz, thin, break, and become dry and brittle. The good news is that you can remedy this by using a clarifying shampoo once a week, get a deep conditioning treatment every few weeks to maintain moisture, and never use products containing alcohol, peroxide, lemon juice, or "sun activated hair lightening" products. The Right Touch carries products that are safe for color treated hair, do not contain sulfate or other damaging ingredients and will be sure to leave all heads of hair healthy and happy! Consult with a hair stylist to decide which products are right for you and remember to always protect your hair from sun and heat!

We all know that sun damage on your face and neck show up in the form of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. How do we stop it, or even reverse it? Possibly the best thing you can do for your skin is to wear SPF whenever going outside, even on a cloudy day to protect your skin cells.  If you haven’t been so great about keeping up with this, come in for a Glycolic or Lactic acid treatment. This will remove dead skin cells to brighten and smooth your skin. It’s also a good idea to use an exfoliating cleanser once or twice a week. Creams, moisturizers and serums containing antioxidants will protect the collagen and elastic tissue from free radicals that can cause wrinkles and sagging skin. Try our Sage and Citrus Moisturizer after cleansing. To reduce the appearance of discoloration and age spots try Retinol Night Cream.

These same rules apply to your entire body. If you feel you have some sun damage on your arms, legs, back or anywhere else try an exfoliating body scrub to rid your body of dead skin cells. Follow with a body wrap to nourish and hydrate. Frequently apply body butters and creams after your shower to keep your skin healthy and hydrated all year long. Try Shea Body Butter or Sugar Smoothie Body Crème.
